This year is also the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I. My hero, Seth, was a witness to the terrible events of that war as an ambulance driver. Sara discovers his letters home in a trunk hidden in the attic of the island house she's renting.

“I gathered that,” he murmured.
“You did nothing wrong. We . . . did nothing wrong.”
“I’m trying . . . I’m trying to court you as you deserve. Your era seems to lack some of the respect and romance we had in my day. I want to give that to you, Sara. I want to give you the things you’ve missed.”
Her heart sank. He pitied her.
Seth was perceptive enough to read her subtle change in demeanor. “What did I say wrong?”
“You’re not doing this because you feel sorry for me, are you?”
“Why would you think that?”
“Don’t make me fall in love with you, Seth, if you don’t mean it.”
“I am many things, but insincere is not one of them.” He stood and walked down to the edge of the pond.

About the book:
