Under These Restless Skies will be released on February 20, and every day until then, I'll be posting a small excerpt. You can check out the book's blog here, including more excerpts and information on the Tudor historical characters in the story, and the legend of the selkies on which the story is based.

Today's Excerpt:
He took out Emma’s cap and felt, rather than heard, her start behind him. Below was her pelt, the sleek fur shining in the low light. He turned to glance at her and saw her small, wistful smile.
“My granddame told me a story—” Will started. He licked his lips, then tried again. “She said selkies whose pelts have been stolen cannot touch it until it is given back willingly.”
“ ’Tis true.”
Will’s throat was tight. He knew he should offer it back to her. He couldn’t keep a part of her locked away forever. That was the torment of it. Would she leave him if she could? She said she loved him and did not want go, but his granddame had said their first love would always be the sea. Would she find she loved freedom more?
