Under These Restless Skies will be released on February 20, and every day until then, I'll be posting a small excerpt. You can check out the book's blog here, including more excerpts and information on the Tudor historical characters in the story, and the legend of the selkies on which the story is based.

Today's excerpt:The clouds moved, and bright moonlight streamed in their window to illuminate a patch of the wood floor. They both turned their heads to look up at its pale face.
“My mother once told me it was made of green cheese.”

Emma laughed. “ ’Tis not green!”
“Fresh cheese,” Will amended. “Unripened.”
“Ah.” Emma turned her face away. “My people say it is covered with ice. A cold land where nothing grows and the seas are frozen solid. ’Tis where souls filled with hate go until they learn to love.”
“Your hell is one of ice, and ours is one of fire,” Will mused. “In our hell, there is no learning and leaving. ’Tis a place of everlasting suffering.”
“We believe that nothing but love is eternal. Only love is powerful enough to survive forever.”
